The 2026 3M Open brought the golf world to Minnesota from July 23–26 at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine. As Minnesota’s only PGA TOUR event and one of the Twin Cities’ biggest summer sporting events, it gave us the perfect excuse to highlight another impressive 3M lineup, this time from the Acme Tools shelves.
Since 3M is getting plenty of attention on the golf course, we decided to look at five 3M products that deserve a little recognition in the workshop.
These products will not straighten out your drive or save you from a three-putt, but they can protect your hearing, improve jobsite safety and help your projects finish comfortably under par.
1. The Caddie: 3M WorkTunes Connect + Solar Hearing Protector
A good caddie keeps distractions under control and helps you stay focused. The 3M WorkTunes Connect + Solar Wireless Hearing Protector does something similar when the lawn mower, saw or drill starts making its presence known.
With a 26-decibel Noise Reduction Rating, WorkTunes helps reduce exposure to hazardous noise while allowing you to stream music, podcasts and audiobooks through Bluetooth. You can also make and receive calls with background-noise reduction designed to improve call clarity.
The built-in Powerfoyle solar cell continuously charges from indoor or outdoor light. That does not mean you should wear hearing protection down the first fairway, but it does mean spending time outside can help keep it powered.
Why it earns a spot in the bag:
- 26-decibel Noise Reduction Rating
- Bluetooth connectivity for audio and calls
- Solar cell charges using indoor or outdoor light
- Water- and sweat-resistant construction
- Lightweight, low-profile design
- Headband is compatible with baseball caps
- 40-hour battery reserve
Best for: Mowing, drilling, sawing, landscaping and other noisy projects.
2. The Rangefinder: 3M SecureFit 500 Series Protective Eyewear
Golfers use rangefinders to see the target clearly. On the jobsite, the target is usually a cut line, fastener or workpiece, and protecting your eyes is considerably more important than knowing the pin is 147 yards away.
The 3M SecureFit 500 Series Protective Eyewear features clear polycarbonate lenses with anti-fog and anti-scratch protection. Adjustable ratchet temples and 3M Pressure Diffusion Temple Technology help the glasses conform comfortably to the wearer’s head.
The lenses absorb 99.9% of UVA and UVB rays, while integrated side shields provide additional coverage. They also meet ANSI Z87.1-2015 requirements as impact-rated protective eyewear.
Why it earns a spot in the bag:
- Clear anti-fog and anti-scratch lenses
- Lightweight 22-gram design
- Self-adjusting pressure diffusion temples
- Three-position lens-angle adjustment
- Integrated side shields
- Absorbs 99.9% of UVA and UVB rays
Best for: Cutting, drilling, grinding, fastening and general shop work.
3. The Putter: 3M ScotchBlue Original Painter’s Tape
A putter is all about following a clean line. So is the 3M ScotchBlue Original Painter’s Tape 3-Pack.
This multi-surface painter’s tape helps create sharp paint lines on smooth and lightly textured surfaces. It can remain in place for up to 14 days and still remove cleanly without damaging the surface, even when exposed to direct sunlight.
Unlike a five-foot putt, ScotchBlue is far less likely to betray you at the last second.
Why it earns a spot in the bag:
- Helps produce sharp paint lines
- Clean removal for up to 14 days
- Medium adhesion level
- UV- and sunlight-resistant
- Suitable for indoor or outdoor projects
- Includes three 0.94-inch-by-60-yard rolls
Best for: Painting walls, trim, doors, cabinets and accent patterns.
4. The Pace-of-Play Specialist: 3M Hand-Masker M3000 Dispenser
Slow play can ruin an otherwise enjoyable round. Slow project preparation is not much better.
The 3M Hand-Masker M3000 Dispenser applies masking tape to masking film or paper in one continuous motion. According to 3M, it can make preparation four to five times faster than the traditional paper-and-poly method.
Its compact design and easy-grip handle make it easier to cover walls, trim, windows and other surfaces before painting or sanding. It works with compatible 3M Hand-Masker film, masking paper and ScotchBlue painter’s tape. The required film blade is sold separately.
Why it earns a spot in the bag:
- Applies tape and masking material together
- Four to five times faster than traditional paper-and-poly masking
- Compact and lightweight construction
- Comfortable easy-grip handle
- Works with masking film or paper
- Pairs with ScotchBlue painter’s tape
Best for: Painting preparation, drywall texturing, floor sanding and interior or exterior finishing.
5. The Rescue Wedge: 3M Cubitron II 40+ Grit Flap Disc
Every golfer eventually needs a club capable of escaping the rough. For metalworking, that role belongs to the 3M Cubitron II 967A 40+ Grit Flap Disc.
Designed for use with a right-angle grinder, this disc is built for weld removal, surface preparation, light deburring, scale removal and blending. Its Precision-Shaped Grain continuously fractures into sharp cutting points, helping the disc maintain a consistent cutting rate as it wears.
The layered flap design also reduces the chance of gouging compared with more aggressive fiber discs and bonded wheels. Think of it as the controlled recovery shot that gets a metal project back into play.
Why it earns a spot in the bag:
- Fast-cutting 40+ grit abrasive
- Suitable for flat and contoured surfaces
- Precision-Shaped Grain exposes fresh cutting edges
- Controlled, even flap wear
- Helps reduce accidental gouging
- Works on mild and stainless steel applications
Best for: Weld leveling, rust and scale removal, light deburring and metal surface preparation.
Build a Better Project Bag with 3M
The best golfers do not carry 14 drivers. Each club has a specific purpose, and choosing the right one is a major part of playing a good round.
The same applies to tools and workshop supplies. WorkTunes protects your hearing, SecureFit protects your eyes, ScotchBlue controls the line, the Hand-Masker speeds up preparation and the Cubitron flap disc handles difficult metalwork.
You may not receive a trophy or a giant check when the project is finished, but completing it safely and cleanly is still a pretty good way to spend a weekend.
