Metabo HPT Nailers: Revisiting The Next Generation Of Cordless Fastening

There is nothing, and I mean nothing, worse than hauling a heavy compressor up a flight of stairs or untangling a mess of air hoses to frame a wall. We all lived that life for years because, frankly, the early cordless options didn’t have the guts. They were slow, they ramped up like a dying jet engine, and they couldn’t sink a nail flush to save their lives.

Back in July 2025, Metabo HPT dropped a video showcasing their Next Generation Cordless Nailers, and it pretty much silenced the skeptics. We are revisiting this lineup today because, even months later, these tools are still setting the standard for what a jobsite should look like. If you are still dragging hoses around in 2026, you are working too hard.

Here is what sets Metabo HPT nailers apart from the rest of the pack. Most cordless nailers use a flywheel system that takes time to spin up. You pull the trigger, you wait a split second, and then it fires. It sounds small, but when you are bumping firing sheathing, that lag is a nightmare.

Metabo HPT uses an Air Spring Drive System. Dave Hamer breaks it down perfectly in the video below. There is a sealed tank of compressed air inside the tool head, at about 125 PSI. It works exactly like a pneumatic gun. The motor resets the piston, compressing the air, and when you pull the trigger, that air releases instantly.

The result? Zero ramp-up time. It feels like a pneumatic, hits like a pneumatic, but there is no hose and no gas cartridge to replace. You get consistent power from the first shot to the last, shooting up to 3 nails per second.

The biggest complaint with going cordless has always been the weight. Batteries are heavy. Motors are heavy. But this Next Gen lineup went on a serious diet.

Take the 18V Paper Strip Framing Nailer (NR1890DCAM). They shaved off about a pound and a half compared to the previous model. When you are overhead framing or working all day, that weight difference saves your shoulder. It is shorter, thinner, and easier to maneuver between studs.

The same goes for the 15-Gauge Finish Nailer. It is 12% lighter and smaller than its predecessor, yet it boasts a 30% increase in power. That means you can blow through hardwoods and fiber cement board without the tool breaking a sweat.

It isn’t just about framing. The lineup includes some serious niche problem-solvers.

The Metal Connector Nailer (NR3665DAM): If you are hanging rafters or strapping, this thing is a beast. The new model is strictly for 1.5-inch nails, which allowed them to make it significantly smaller and lighter.

The Roofing Nailer (NV1845DAM): This is one of the coolest updates. It comes with a vinyl siding adapter that prevents the nail from being driven too tightly, allowing the siding to expand and contract naturally. That is the kind of detail that saves you a callback later.

The 23-Gauge Pin Nailer (NP1835DAM): Unlike the air spring in the others, this uses a mechanical spring for that distinct, delicate firing action needed for pin nails.
