October 14 is National Dessert Day. A day dedicated to dessert. This is your excuse to bring out your favorite appliances and whip up the most delicious (and likely unhealthy) concoctions ever.
You could be lazy and get something from the grocery store, but where is the fun in that? Acme Tools sells several cooking products that can handle much more than burgers, steaks and pizza.
Here are four easy desserts you can make using four different products from Acme Tools.
Grilled Pound Cake on a Blackstone Griddle
The Blackstone Culinary 22-Inch 2-Burner Propane Griddle with Flex-Fold Legs is a convenient option for cooking desserts. It has a ton of space and is easy to set up and use!
What You’ll Need
- One store-bought pound cake
- Two tablespoons of butter
- One pound of fresh strawberries
- One-half cup of sugar
- Juice from half a lemon
- Whipped cream
How to Make It
- Slice the strawberries and combine them with the sugar and lemon juice.
- Let the mixture sit for about 30 minutes so the strawberries release their juices.
- Preheat the griddle to low heat.
- Cut the pound cake into thick slices.
- Melt the butter on the griddle and add the cake.
- Toast each side for two to three minutes or until golden.
- Top each slice with strawberries, their juices and whipped cream.
Keep the heat low and watch the cake closely. Pound cake contains plenty of sugar and can burn quickly.
Peach Cobbler on a Traeger
The Traeger Tailgater 20 Pellet Grill can do more than smoke meat. Its Digital Arc controller allows you to set the temperature in five-degree increments, letting the grill work like an outdoor oven.
What You’ll Need
- Two 15-ounce cans of sliced peaches
- One box of yellow cake mix
- Three-fourths cup of melted butter
- One teaspoon of cinnamon
- Vanilla ice cream
- A heat-safe cast-iron or disposable foil pan
How to Make It
- Set the Traeger to 350°F and preheat it for 15 minutes.
- Drain one can of peaches.
- Pour both cans into the pan, including the syrup from the undrained can.
- Sprinkle cinnamon over the peaches.
- Combine the cake mix and melted butter until the mixture becomes crumbly.
- Spread the topping evenly over the peaches.
- Place the pan directly on the grill grate.
- Cook for 45 to 55 minutes, or until the filling bubbles and the topping is golden.
- Let it cool slightly before serving it with vanilla ice cream.
Cooking time can vary with the weather and grill temperature, so start checking the cobbler around the 40-minute mark.
Dutch Oven Apple Crisp
The Lodge 6-Quart Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven retains heat well and can be used on a stovetop or in an oven up to 500°F. Its enameled surface also works well with acidic ingredients such as apples and lemon juice.
What You’ll Need
- Six apples, peeled and sliced
- One tablespoon of lemon juice
- One teaspoon of cinnamon
- One-half cup of brown sugar, divided
- One cup of rolled oats
- One-half cup of flour
- One-half cup of cold butter, cut into small pieces
How to Make It
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- Combine the apples, lemon juice, cinnamon and half of the brown sugar in the Dutch oven.
- In a separate bowl, mix the oats, flour and remaining brown sugar.
- Work the cold butter into the mixture using a fork or your fingers until coarse crumbs form.
- Spread the topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden.
- Allow it to cool slightly before serving.
Once again, vanilla ice cream is not required, but it certainly helps.
Strawberry and Dark Chocolate Dessert Pizza
The Ooni Koda 16 Propane Pizza Oven can reach temperatures up to 950°F and accommodate pizzas up to 16 inches. Its gas burner also provides adjustable heat without requiring you to manage a wood fire.
What You’ll Need
- One 8- to 12-ounce ball of pizza dough
- Flour for dusting
- Olive oil
- One tablespoon of strawberry jam
- One-half cup of sliced strawberries
- One-fourth cup of grated dark chocolate
- Powdered sugar, if desired
How to Make It
- Preheat the Ooni according to its instructions. Aim for approximately 950°F on the stone.
- Stretch the dough into a 12-inch circle.
- Lightly flour your pizza peel and place the dough on it.
- Drizzle a small amount of olive oil over the dough.
- Launch the dough into the oven.
- Rotate it regularly until the crust is puffed and evenly browned.
- Remove the cooked crust from the oven.
- Spread the strawberry jam over the warm crust.
- Add the sliced strawberries and grated chocolate. The warm crust will begin melting the chocolate.
- Finish it with powdered sugar and serve.
Adding the sweet toppings after baking prevents the chocolate and sugar from burning inside the extremely hot oven.
Save Room for Dessert
If you own a griddle, pellet grill, Dutch oven or pizza oven, it can probably do more than you think. National Dessert Day is the perfect excuse to test that theory.
Choose your dessert, grab the ingredients and start cooking on October 14. Better yet, make all four. We’re not judging.
