Most voltage testers are the same: stick the tip near a wire, wait for the light, and listen for the beep. It’s like playing Simon Says, but with electricity.
That works, but the Klein Tools NCVT7 Non-Contact Voltage Tester adds something more useful: a visual indication of signal strength.
The NCVT7 detects 12-1000V AC without requiring direct contact with the conductor. It can be used around cables, extension cords, circuit breakers, lighting fixtures, switches, outlets and electrical wiring.
Its standout feature is a backlit LCD with a bar graph. More bars appear as the detected signal grows stronger, either because the tester is moving closer to the source or because it is detecting a stronger voltage signal.

The bar graph shows relative signal strength, not an exact voltage reading. It is not a replacement for a multimeter, and a green light alone does not confirm that a conductor is safe to touch. Always verify before beginning electrical work.
