This EGO Snow Shovel Might Be All You Need

If you live somewhere it snows, but not enough to justify a full-size snowblower, this might be the perfect product for you.

The EGO POWER+ 12-Inch Snow Shovel Kit sits somewhere between a regular shovel and a snowblower. You still guide it across the ground yourself, but its brushless motor does the hard part by picking up the snow and throwing it out of your way.

That sounds like a pretty good arrangement to me.

EGO says this shovel can clear up to a three-car driveway covered in six inches of snow using the included 2.5Ah battery. It clears a 12-inch path and can throw snow up to 25 feet. A directional-control dial lets you aim the discharge across a 60-degree range.

Realistically, fresh snowfalls of a few inches are where a tool like this should be most convenient. Six inches is EGO’s stated benchmark, but deep drifts, packed snow and heavy wet slush will be harder on any compact snow shovel. If your driveway regularly disappears beneath a foot of snow, you probably still want a traditional snowblower.

For sidewalks, decks, smaller driveways and tight areas, though, this makes a lot of sense.

At 16.7 pounds with the included battery, the EGO is light enough to maneuver without dragging around a large machine. The variable-speed trigger and two-speed selector also let you control how aggressively it throws the snow.

Once you’re finished, the shaft folds for more compact storage. That is a major benefit if you have limited room in the garage or do not want a snowblower occupying the corner all year.

The kit includes the snow shovel, a 2.5Ah EGO ARC Lithium battery and a 210W charger. You are not buying a bare tool and then discovering that you still need another hundred dollars’ worth of equipment to use it.

This will not replace a two-stage snowblower after a major storm. It is not trying to. The EGO Snow Shovel is for the smaller storms that are too annoying for a regular shovel but not serious enough for the big guns.

For that job, it could be exactly what you need.
