This battery works exclusively with Makita STAR Protection tools that feature an intelligent charging system and electronic overload protection. Microchips in both the Star Protection Computer Controls and the battery exchange data in real time to prevent overheating and over-discharge. 16 contact terminals ensure a constant connection with the tool to prevent any shutdowns or power loss even during heavy-duty use.This cordless tool battery does not self-discharge, so it's ready for use even after sitting idle. When charged up with the Rapid Optimum Charger, a sensor in the charger monitors the battery's electrical current, temperature and voltage for a more efficient process. The Makita 18V 4.0 Ah battery charger's fan keeps the battery cool for optimal charging conditions. Note that the charger is sold separately.
