Laser levels are control tools based on a laser beam projector. The projector projects one or more fixed lines or dots along the horizontal and/or vertical axis. This enables the user to align their work to these lines or dots. Some laser levels combine lines and dots. These power tools are used for leveling and aligning vertical, horizontal, grading-slope, square, angle, and point-transferring applications. What's more, the five most common laser levels are cross-line, line lasers, point lasers, rotary lasers, and torpedo. Cross-line laser levels use a prism to deflect the laser in 180 degrees vertically, horizontally, or both. They create a bright, steady, easy-to-see beam. Line generator laser levels emit a level line on the wall in a single line or a cross-hair fashion. These only cast level lines in one direction onto a single wall. Point laser levels, also called plumb or dot lasers, produce a single dot or multiple dots of reference on the wall. They work much like a reference point or laser plumb bob. Rotary laser levels emit a level line in a rotary fashion, usually around the entire room in 360 degrees. This variety is generally larger in size and needs mounting on a sturdy tripod. Lastly, torpedo laser levels combine point and line measuring into one tool.
