Hand grease guns are common workshop and garage tools used for applying lubricants and greases to mechanical or moving parts. They are used by mechanics, engineers, hobbyists, and more. Hand grease guns are designed to deliver lubrication to areas of a rotary bearing that may otherwise be difficult to reach without disassembly. Lubricant is dispensed directly where it is needed via a grease fitting, also known as a grease nipple, that screws on. Using grease guns and grease nipples together ensures the process is quick, easy, and neat. Popular brands like DEWALT Tools and Milwaukee Tool manufacture hand grease guns.

Lever and Hand Pump Grease Guns

The different types of hand grease guns include lever, hand pump, pneumatic, and battery-powered. Lever, or manual, grease guns are operated with a simple pressure trigger mechanism. This enables the operator to control the force and flow rate using their physical squeezing force. Hand pump, or pistol type/grip, grease guns feature a pressurized pump handle, or piston, as part of the tool that needs to be primed before use. Instead of controlling the force and flow rate with your physical squeezing force, the user unlocks the grease flow using a trigger mechanism once sufficient pressure has built up during priming.

Pneumatic (Air) and Battery-Powered Grease Guns

Pneumatic, or air-powered, grease guns attach to an air compressor via a hose and offer greater power than lever or hand pump models. This variety of hand grease gun is ideal for industrial applications due to the ease and speed offered. Battery-powered grease guns work similarly to pneumatic versions except that the batteries provide power to create pressure build-up. This type is more portable than pneumatic grease guns because you don’t need an air compressor to power it.
