Truck Tool Boxes
Truck Tool Boxes
If you're the type who can't go anywhere without your power tools or hand tools, a truck tool box is a must-have truck accessory. But which box is right for your pickup truck (or maybe ATV)?
Truck Box Options
Depending on how you plan to use it, there are a few different options for the perfect truck box.
Saddle Box/Crossover Truck Tool Box
A saddle box or crossover truck tool box, also called a top mount tool box, is the one you might picture when you think about the typical truck bed tool box that hovers on top of your truck bed rails. With this system, you still have truck bed storage space under the tool box. Generally, a crossover truck tool box has a single lid, but there are also gull-wing varieties, which have two lids accessible from the side of the truck.
Side boxes are mounted on one side of your truck bed, or you can mount one on each side. Running the length of the bed, they allow you to easily access your tools without getting into the bed.
Not a fan of having to mount truck tool boxes to the bed? There are still plenty of great storage box options.
Pork Chop Box
A pork chop box is an awesome option. It utilizes the otherwise neglected space above and behind your wheel well, providing great storage space for your tools without getting in the way of your tailgate potential — or your ability to haul bulky supplies to your job site.
A chest box is a more portable option that sits in your truck bed. You might want to opt for one of these if you have a tonneau cover on your truck.
Finally, underbody tool boxes are mounted underneath the truck. You typically see these used on flatbed trucks that need to utilize all the interior cargo space.
