Bosch Brad/Pilot Point
Bosch brad point drill bits bore precise holes in wood for furniture making and other projects. These bits drill cleanly and with minimal splintering, producing well edged holes. They are used in woodworking when precision is needed for fitting pins. Brad point bits are ideal when using Bosch tools to bore holes in both fine and heavy-duty woodworking projects. They bore accurately sized holes because they don't wander during the drilling process and leave wood grains intact during drilling. When used for woodworking, they provide greater control than auger bits and are faster than Fostner bits.
Brad point bits have sharp tips that penetrate the wood before drilling begins and create a stable starting point. They also have outlining spurs that cut and sheer at the same time, a process that creates smooth holes. This eliminates the need for sanding, saving you time. These Bosch drill bits also ensure that wood is not accidentally removed from surface areas close to your drilling sites.
There are brad point bits designed specifically for use with hardwoods or with softwoods. Bits designed for use with soft woods have slightly rounded edges, which pin down the ends of the wood grain while cutting, preventing splintering or tearing. Hardwood brad point bits have sharper, less rounded points, which allow the bit to easily penetrate the dense grain.
Bosch pilot point drill bits come in a variety of diameters and shank sizes, ranging from 1/8 inches by 2-3/4 inches to 5/8 inches by 7 inches. Extra wide flutes maximize the rate of chip removal. Brad point drill bit sets commonly include 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, 7/16 and 1/2-inch bits. Other wood-boring bits made by Bosch include spade, self-feeding, bell hanger and hinge boring bits. Efficient hole saw bit sets quickly drill large holes in various materials, including wood.
