Box-end wrenches are closed at both ends and fit over the top of a nut or bolt head. When you use them to tighten nuts they can go very deep, and they hold nuts and bolts very well. Adjustable wrenches are versatile because they can adapt to work with bolts of virtually any size. With them, one tool does the work of an entire set. Pipe wrenches also have adjustable jaws and see use for plumbing applications. These tools are larger than other models to accommodate very wide pipes.

Strap wrenches use rubber straps that tighten over your work to loosen or secure. Use them for projects with round, hard-to-grip pieces, like changing a car's oil filter. Tap wrenches have a very different structure than other types. Instead of fastening, these tools create threads in tap and die operations.

Specialty wrenches serve various functions. Many of them are proprietary, and you use them to fix specific tools or install pieces other than fasteners. Some are more specific versions of a regular wrench, such as a ratcheting version of a box-end wrench that lets you tighten or remove with less hand strain. A torque wrench tells you exactly how much torque you have applied to a tightened piece. Knowing the torque is necessary for machinery operations with strict tightening standards.

A wrench is an indispensable tool when you're working with bolts and nuts. They are easy to learn and use, and find use on almost any project. Add a wrench set to your tool arsenal and enjoy the versatility at home and on professional jobs.
