Features

The SuperMax Tools 19-38 Drum Sander is an excellent sanding solution for woodworking hobbyists or small workshops. It features INTELLISANDâ„¢ technology, which prevents surface burns and gouges by automatically controlling the conveyor speed based on load. The SuperMax woodworking drum sander has a 110V, 20-Amp, TEFC 1-3/4 horsepower motor that drives the sanding drum at 1,740 RPM and a 0 to 10 foot per minute conveyor motor. Sturdy cast-iron construction reduces vibration, and a reinforced steel conveyor bed with less than 0.01 inches of variance ensures accurate sanding. SuperMax's variable speed drum sander is easy to use. You can adjust the conveyor angle and alignment using a few simple controls. The tension rollers have adjustable hold down and height settings that eliminate sniping. With a conveyor table that's 22 inches wide, the SuperMax 19-38 Drum Sander can do two-pass sanding on stock up to 38 inches wide. It handles pieces 1/32 to 4 inches thick with a minimum length of 2-1/4 inches. The SuperMax woodworking drum sander has a drum-shaped metal cover with a 4-inch vacuum port that provides excellent dust removal capabilities.

Customer Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by from hugh improvment over the original performax!!! the improvements in this sander is amazing. i had one of the original performax 16-32 sanders, and while it worked great there was a lot of room for improvement. it used to take a long time to switch the old sander from flat sanding for stock that was under 16 inches to a slightly wider setting on the outboard side for wider stock. very time consuming and frustrating. and i am a retired machine repairman that feels comfortable working on machinery. NOW with the new machine all it is, is a flip of a lever and i go from narrow set up to a wide set up, this is hugh to me !!! the extra support for wider sanding is also nice. the intelisand feature is terrific it helps to stop sandpaper burning.. i needed to make some laminates that are 16 inches wide and 84 inches long. sanded to 1/16 inch thick... 11 laminations all exactly the same thickness they came out excellent !!! no burning of material and absolutly flat !!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent machine Excellent machine true from factory ..took about two hours to assemble with indeed/outfeed tables by myself would recommend a helper sander is very heavy all cast iron that was main reason for going with the supermax...a great buy and you can't beat acme price and service

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality Ive used this machine a couple times, do not own one yet, but hope to soon. It results in a flawless surface on my cutting boards, and makes production much faster.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite Tool This is becoming my favorite tool in the shop! Once adjusted to parallel, I can take off 2 thousands each pass with 120 paper across a guitar back or top. Easy to change the grits on the drum, even on the right side! Acme Tools has a great price with free delivery and customer service.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super Sander Purchased 3 months ago. Delivery and assembly were seamless. Construction is heavy duty and solid. The results are fantastic. I got this to finish pieces that were too small for the thickness planer. Dust collection works good, although you need to maintain strong suction to avoid residual dusting of the feed bed. Minor adjustments can be made to insure that the arm and feed bed are parallel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This sander WOKKS GREAT I bought this sander about nine months ago for my hobby woodworking shop. I had a set of kitchen cabinets to build out of maple. In the past I would use my planner to take the boards down to 3/4", but even with new blades I would have to many chip-outs with the maple boards. The factory setting of the drum was close enough for most projects, but within 30 minutes I had it set to .0003 of an inch from inside to outside of the drum. The sander also works better than a planner for glue joints as well. If I could only afford one machine, I would choose the sander over the planner, even though the sander is slower at removing stock.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best purchase in a long time I waffled on getting this drum sander for a while, and I wish i would have gotten it sooner. I've found myself using it for almost every project and it saves me a lot of time and effort in dimensioning and finish sanding. Initial setup took a little bit, and you need two people to get it on the stand, but once it's up and running it's been flawless for me.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Well made, makes sanding wide boards easy Hoisted it onto the stand using a Gorilla ladder and the winch on the front of my garden tractor. This thing is heavy, had to have my 100 pound daughter stand on the front wheel to keep the tractor from rising up. Sands well, easy to adjust the height. The automatic feed speed adjustment is a nice feature. I got the extension tables, a bit finicky to get perfectly aligned. As another reviewer said, the conveyor belt separated at the seam this past December. It was below 32F, maybe the adhesive can't deal with cold. Had to order a new one from Acme (call, they don't list it on the website). Yes the sandpaper gums up pretty fast with "sappy" wood or wood with knots. I bought rolls of paper that doesn't gum up so fast from another source and cut my own. I also bought a sandpaper "eraser" on Amazon, works well to pull some of the stuff off the paper so it is usable longer. I agree with other posters, the most aggravating part of using the sander is getting the motor end of the paper in and tight. It would be very helpful if that end could be put in first and the open end last. I waste a lot of time trying to get the paper in just right. That is a pain when running through several grit papers. The lever that is suppose to raise and lower the distal end doesn't seem to do anything on my machine. I know it is supposed to be a really small change but there is nothing happening on the side by the lever, it doesn't really contact anything. Not sure how to fix that.
