Rated 2 out of 5 by from Didn't work for me Photographing in cold weather is a particular problem for me. I'm a skinny guy, without much natural insulation, and my hands turn icy the moment I remove my gloves to operate the camera. So, having discovered the existence of electrically heated jackets, I found a model that includes heated pockets, in addition to the standard heating elements in the back and chest areas. To operate my camera without gloves and to put my bare hands back into warm and snug pockets sounded like a pretty attractive proposition. This jacket is the Milwaukee 2387, which is actually two garments: a heated vest and an outer jacket. The jacket has a slit in each side so that one may slip one's hands through the jacket and into the heated vest pockets. One may of course use a different jacket or coat over the vest, but then there is no practical access to the heated vest pockets. The quality of construction and materials seemed quite satisfactory, and I thought the fleece-lined hood of the jacket was quite nice. The outer jacket was a little short at the waist for my taste. Compared to various other jackets I own, only my flight jacket was shorter. The rechargeable battery that powers the heating elements is relatively large, but is placed in a well-positioned side pocket of the vest, where I found it to be remarkably unobtrusive. On the High heat setting (the lower settings are probably not worth bothering with), the battery lasts about two hours. I walked around in this vest/jacket combination several times in temperatures around 35 degrees F. I tried it both with just a thin layer underneath the vest and also with more layering underneath the vest. Honestly, I did not do extensive testing; basically I walked about a mile or so for each "test," and my impressions were as follows. I could not tell the difference between the vest being turned on (chest and back only, high heat setting) and it being turned off, with wearing either a thin layer underneath the vest or multiple layers underneath the vest. My torso seemed reasonably warm with the vest turned on or off, except for my arms, which were cold even with the vest turned on (there are no heating elements in the arms). The heated vest pockets did produce noticeable and unmistakable warming, however the placement of the heating elements is in the upper part of the rather deep pockets, and my hands naturally wanted to rest in the lower half of the pockets, so the pockets were not as warm as they could be if the heating elements had been placed lower down; in fact, the tips of my fingers, which rested in the lower corner of the pocket, received no heat at all. Seems like a major design flaw to me. Perhaps if I had stayed out in the cold longer it is possible I might have detected some beneficial effect from the vest's chest and back heating elements, but the most important aspect of this vest for me was the heated pockets, and they were a definite disappointment. I ended up returning the garment. As they say, your mileage may vary, but my overall sense is that present technology (especially battery technology) is not yet able to produce a truly practical and effective heated jacket. I do believe that heated pockets are currently practical, if effectively designed. On the other hand, (pardon the pun) chemical hand warmers are readily available and may be a more viable alternative.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Almost the Best Heated Jacket I purchased the jacket for hunting but love it so much that started using it almost all the time, the only problem is that there's only one color. The other 3 in 1 system in black is NOT the same, it uses a hoodie NOT a vest. And the black vest that is sold separately is not the same design, NO pocket heaters. If there where a black option it will be the best jacket system out there. PLEASE Milwaukee, make a Black option!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from heats up well Vest heats up well, you can really fell the heat. I like that the heated vest can be used in different jackets. Dont like that the vest doesnt zip into the Milwauke jacket to become one piece, makes it cumbersome to put on.
