Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great in tight spots but underpowered I've used Makita cordless tools since the 9.6 NiCad lines were introduced. I always loved having the battery in the handle instead of "hanging out." When I'm working in the open, I normally have power available. My cordless tools need to work in tight and restricted spaces around wires, pipes, mechanical installations, etc. so this should have been a no-brainer as it is far more compact than the Milwaukee alternative for cutting up into tight spaces. Sadly, while the nose reaches what I need to do, the reversible blade mounting allows for even more flexibility, and the paddle style trigger lets you run when you don't really have room to hold onto the tool, battery life just isn't up to the task. The safety on the trigger switch is abysmal, but I could overlook that if Makita's 12v Lion batteries had as much run time as my old 9.6v NiCad tools did. Yes, you can recharge faster, but utility is seriously limited by having to constantly change batteries. Makita needs to take a lesson from Milwaukee's 12v Lion line and provide extended run time batteries. Yes, they might not keep the same profile, but I'm buying tools to work with, not play around. I love the short blade stroke as that lets me get up close to things I don't want to be cutting and is easier to plunge cut with. I just don't like having to change out my battery after only a couple of cuts through 2" PVC or ABS pipe or a single 2x4 plate. The rest of the tool design and construction should make this your go-to choice in the toolbox. Light weight, small nose profile, lots of blade choices and something you can use in tight spots or out in the open. Still, without a better battery, this is going to be discontinued pretty quick. I can't recommend buying one of these unless you really need a reciprocating saw with the long, unobstructed nose this one has. If you do (like I do), then be prepared to break out your cuss words about half-way to almost through making a pocket cut in your plates when you have to stop and change batteries. The package really should come with at least 2 batteries just to compensate. Personally, the stick batteries were a better form factor as they put power and weight in your hand, without getting in the way.
