JET® lathes for metalworking are one of the most sophisticated families of Jet tools that are industry standards for metalworking professionals. Its family of precision lathes is part of the turning phase of a metalworking process that also includes sawing, drilling, milling, forming and grinding. The lathes come in four broad classes with multi-speed capabilities and range from 20 to 120 inches between centers. Jet lathes have computer-controlled Anilam functionality for programming arc, line and canned specs. All Jet metalworking turning tools have precision-ground spindles that turn on bearings for exacting rotation. The precision lathes can be equipped with Jet turning accessories, consisting of collet closers, taper attachments and tool rests.
The largest Jet lathes are large spindle bore lathes, with bores of either 3-1/8 or 4-1/8 inches in diameter. Headstock gears made of precision-ground molybdenum are housed in a universal gearbox with a clutch mechanism for changing speeds on the fly. A cast-iron bed provides stable parallel movement and lubricated carriage and cross-slides that have a rapid power traverse to make depth cutting more accessible. The large spindle bore lathes have a 4-way post with a T-slot compound slide and automatic, 5-stop carriage positioning to enhance precision.
Jet metal turning equipment also includes geared head lathes, either engine or bench style. Both feature a fully enclosed gearbox with annealed, precision-ground gears that accommodate in-operation gear changes, plus a spindle that glides on tapered bearings. Other precision-enhancing features of these lathes include inch-metric gauges, independent lead screw and feed rod and induction-hardened V-way beds. Jet also manufactures several belt-drive bench lathes equipped with an enclosed gearbox containing hardened, ground gears. These lathes also offer the same precision-enhancing feature of the geared head lathes, plus they have a full-length splash guard to protect against coolant and chip spray.
Jet lathes are the largest family of Jet metalworking tools with the widest range of options. Browse our selection to find the ideal fit for all your metalworking needs.
